Porto

We arrived in the  city of Porto yesterday. Took the metro on the last stretch and ended up in the old train station with its beautiful blue tiled murals. Then walked out into sunshine! … the first we had seen in days. Thanks to Raymond’s dogged work on the internet, we found a relatively cheap pension within walking distance of the old city. Looks like things are improving!

We had the time to walk to the cathedral and tour it before heading across the river to Vila Nova de Gaia where the are dozens of port “cellars” (in some cases actually caves) where the port is stored and aged.  We toured one of the cellars and got a taste of very sweet port.

Today we will take time to do laundry, see a few more sites and relax a bit before heading out on the Camino again tomorrow. Both of us are struggling with chest colds and hoping the day’s rest will help us get over them.
